Getting Your Medical Marijuana Grower License in Oklahoma

Although just 9 percent of the population has a medical marijuana card, Oklahoma’s medical marijuana sector is thriving, generating more than $1 billion in total sales since the passage of SQ788 in June of 2018. In order to accommodate the state’s increasing demand, more Oklahoma farmers are being licensed on a daily basis, with roughly 400 cultivation licenses acquired between December and January alone, according to the OMMA licensing report. Because of the low barrier to entry, Oklahoma cannabis producers are still in a good position to identify their niche and become “marijuana billionaires” in the rapidly expanding industry.

Starting with a high-level review of the resources you’ll need to begin and build a 100 percent legal cultivation firm in Oklahoma, we’ll give you a step-by-step guide to getting started.

What Are The Oklahoma Requirements For An MMJ Grower License?

Obtaining an Oklahoma growers license from the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority (OMMA) will enable your company to produce an unlimited number of plants and sell them to licensed processors and licensed dispensaries in the state of Oklahoma. A unique licensing and application is required for each license category, as well as each grow facility. License applications cost $2,500, and each grow facility and application must be submitted separately.

Here’s what requirements you’ll need to meet to obtain an Oklahoma grow license as of this writing:

  • You must be at least 25 years old.
  • In order to demonstrate that 75 percent of the owners are Oklahoma residents, as required by SQ 788, you’ll need to provide proof of two years of residence before the date of application or five continuous years of the past 25 years preceding the date of application.
  • The Certificate of Compliance from the governmental subdivision that has authority over the location of the business will be needed for all business applicants (usually a city or county). This implies you’ll need to have a place to call your own.
  • Each owner and officer is required to submit and pass a background check before they can be appointed. Applications will be refused if any owner or officer has a non-violent criminal conviction within the last two years or a violent felony conviction within the last five years.
  • It is necessary to produce documentation of good standing from the Secretary of State if your company is organized as an LLC, corporation, or limited partnership.
