Medical Marijuana Program Assistance
The state of South Dakota is looking for help with running its medical marijuana program. The South Dakota Department of Health recently issued a proposal seeking a vendor to manage and administer a medical marijuana regulatory infrastructure that includes statewide licensing, verification, and patient registry systems.
Last Monday, health secretary Kim Malsam-Rysdon said this is just one of many steps the South Dakota Department of Health will take to fulfill the commitment of implementing a responsible medical marijuana program that ensures patient and public safety.
Initiated Measure 26
Initiated Measure 26 legalizes the medical use of cannabis and allows the plant to be legally grown and sold in the state of South Dakota. The new law is set to take place in July of 2021, however, there is much work to be done until the program is fully rolled out, with a deadline of fall to have the associated regulatory system stood up, and begin issuing medical use cards and licenses. According to the South Dakota Department of Health, ‘the patient verification system will allow South Dakota law enforcement officials to accurately identify medical marijuana patients and caregivers they may encounter and a licensing system will be used to accept applications for medical marijuana establishments.
