SOUTH DAKOTA MEDICAL CANNABIS PATIENTS INSTRUCTIONS ONLY

We would like to formally welcome you to the My Marijuana Card Family! We’ve enjoyed helping you on your wellness journey. Now that you’ve met with our physician, you’ll need to next activate your account online with the South Dakota Medical Cannabis program. Remember, only when you complete this registration with the state can you receive your card.

To make this next step with the State easy for you, we’ve outlined a checklist below of everything you will need to do before you activate your account with them. It might be helpful to read over these items first (or even print them out). We want to make sure you have everything you’ll need before navigating your way to the State’s online website to complete the process.

CHECKLIST OF WHAT YOU’LL NEED BEFORE YOU ACTIVATE YOUR SOUTH DAKOTA MEDICAL  CANNABIS CARD ( Click Here for Picture Illustration of Process)

• An activation email from the State. After your doctor’s appointment with us, you should have received an activation email from the state to create your new account in their system. The email has the sender address noreply@sd.airlift.app and could have been delivered to your spam or junk email folder. This email has the direct link to the State’s program for you to complete your application.
  
• A new password for your account. When on the state’s website, you’ll be prompted to create a new password for your new patient account. Your password must be 8- 20 characters.
• A photo ID to prove your identification. When registering on the state’s online program, you’ll need to upload a photograph on your ID to prove your identity. Acceptable forms of identification are a South Dakota driver’s license, U.S. passport, tribal identification card or South Dakota student ID card.
• A passport-style photo of yourself. Your new cannabis card from the state will contain a photo of yourself. You’ll need to upload a valid passport-style photo to your patient account in the state’s system. This is required to complete your registration. You can take a photo at home to upload to their system so it can be printed on your card. The patient’s photo must meet the following criteria: 
  • A high-resolution color photo that is not blurry, grainy, pixelated, or digitally altered 
  • Uses a clear image of the individual’s face without filters 
  • Uses a plain white or off-white background
• A passport-style photo of yourself. Your new cannabis card from the state will contain a photo of yourself. You’ll need to upload a valid passport-style photo to your patient account in the state’s system. This is required to complete your registration. You can take a photo at home to upload to their system so it can be printed on your card. The patient’s photo must meet the following criteria: 
  • A high-resolution color photo that is not blurry, grainy, pixelated, or digitally altered 
  • Uses a clear image of the individual’s face without filters 
  • Uses a plain white or off-white background
• Access to a printer to print out approved items for use as your temporary medical cannabis card. Good news! The State permits the temporary use of a completed application and doctor’s certification from their system in order to access cannabis ahead of your official card arriving in the mail. You’ll need two items printed in order to demonstrate this temporary status: a copy of your submitted application from the Department of Health online system and a copy of your physician’s certification. 
  
• Low-Income patient identification (Optional). The state’s registration system has an option to upload information to demonstrate the need for a reduced card fee based on being a low-income patient. We found that patients who selected the low-income/reduced application fee are charged the discounted rate at the time of application. However, they were notified much later on that the documentation was insufficient and they were then prompted to pay the difference or submit additional documentation before their card was issued. This delayed their card delivery.
  
• Cannabis cultivation at home information (Optional). If you plan to grow or maintain a cannabis plant at home, you’ll need to supply that information in your online application. You’ll have to indicate the person doing the cultivation and submit a diagram and photograph of the enclosed and locked area where it will be done. Please note that the state charges an additional $20 fee for this type of registration.

Lastly, there is only one cannabis dispensary available in South Dakota at this time. It is located outside of Sioux Falls at Native Nations Dispensary, 1314 S. Veterans Street, Flandreau, SD 57028.
