Two Former Detroit Lions have teamed up again – this time, to invest in Michigan’s thriving marijuana industry.<\/p>\n
Former Lineman Rob Sims and wide receiver Calvin “Megatron” Johnson, are\u00a0investors in a 12,000-square-foot indoor grow facility,\u00a0just outside of Webberville, Michigan.\u00a0The pair also looks to open their first medical\/recreational marijuana retail location by the end of November, 10 minutes from the Indiana border, in Niles.<\/p>\n
They realized they shared interests\u00a0in\u00a0entrepreneurship as teammates in\u00a0Detroit and have since turned their focus to Michigan real estate investment properties. And though quiet about its use\u00a0in their playing days, both admit that they used marijuana to treat their pain off\u00a0the gridiron.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was more natural and holistic than other options, such as\u00a0opioids<\/a>, for pain and inflammation,\u201d Johnson told the\u00a0South Bend Tribune<\/a>. \u201cOther options are needed that are less damaging or addictive.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWe think it could help with MS, Parkinson\u2019s and other neurodegenerative diseases,\u201d Sims said. \u201cThere might be additional medical benefits that we don\u2019t know about but are worth investigating.\u201d<\/p>\n They chose the location in Niles because of the size of the building, good parking, and proximity to\u00a0the Indiana border. Local officials are excited about the venture.<\/p>\n The city is \u201calways taking emails for vendors interested in grows, processing, transport, and labs,\u201d said Sanya Vitale, Niles community development director, who noted that the industry has already created more jobs.<\/p>\n (Note: Indiana does not have a Medical Marijuana program.
